  • Quake 4 Review. 2006-01-13. So I’m playing Quake 4 now that I finally got my new computer put together. (What was the first thing I installed after Windows? Yup.

  • FlatOut2. 2006-10-10. I’ve basically finished with FlatOut2… won all the races except the one at the very end, and that’s just a bunch of derbies. The game pretty much ruled until I got bored from racing on the same tracks over and over again and, well, from winning all the time. :) I give it 5… out of 5.

  • World of Warcraft. 2006-10-10. Inspired by the recent episode of South Park, and being bored with FlatOut2, I finally installed my trial version of World of Warcraft yesterday, which I’d gotten with a video card about a year ago I think. I’ve been trying to stay away from MMORPGs because, as South Park indicated, you really can’t play them competitively unless you’re willing to join some kind of guild and give up your life, and really, what’s the point in playing a game if not to win? :) But I’ve heard repeatedly that WoW was particularly good for so-called “casual gamers” and people who liked solo adventuring, so I gave it a shot.

  • World of Warcraft Addendum. 2006-10-11. Addendum: So I go to login to WoW last night to see how many levels I can acheive with a 14-day trial account, and it says the server is full and I have to wait in a queue for some 30 minutes to get in! You have got to be kidding me. That seals the deal.

  • Half-Life 2: Deathmatch. 2006-10-16. I played two maps of Half-Life 2: Deathmatch this past weekend (about 30 minutes worth), so I feel qualified to write a comprehensive review of it now.

  • Counter-Strike: Source. 2006-10-17. I broke down and played some Counter-Strike: Source last night. This was the first time I’ve ever played Counter-Strike (CS) in all the seven years or so it’s been out. I figured it was time to assimilate since it’s like the most popular online game in the world, and runs on 6 bazillion servers, and has 7 gajillion people playing it every day.

  • Oblivion Redux. 2007-04-29. I’ve been woefully negligent in reporting my gaming activities here. Not that anyone reads this anyway. :)

  • Half-Life 2: Episode 1. 2007-08-15. I downloaded Half-Life 2: Episode 1 from Steam a couple weeks ago for 9.95. Overall it was a quality game and I enjoyed playing it, but I’m glad I got it when it was on sale, because it was really, really short. It only took me a couple of days to go through the entire game.

  • Painkiller. 2007-08-15. I also downloaded Painkiller from Steam the other day for 9.95. I hear a lot of people complaining about the Steam platform, but I have to say that the concept of impulse buying quality games without even leaving your chair is pretty cool. :) I’ve never had any problems with Steam, although admitedly I haven’t used it all that extensively.

  • CoD4. 2007-11-28. I’ve been playing Call of Duty 4 for a few days. I played Call of Duty 2, but did not play Call of Duty 3 (since it was only available for consoles).

  • Portal. 2008-01-18. So I picked up Valve’s Orange Box, which includes Half-Life 2 Episode 2, Portal, Team Fortress 2, and some other mini-games that nobody cares about. I got Orange Box for basically three reasons: 1) I wanted to play HL2 Episode 2, the continuation of the Half-Life 2 serial saga, 2) I’ve heard a lot of good things about Portal, and 3) I enjoyed the amusing TF2 trailers, plus Yellow said he’d played it, which I assume means it can’t be all that bad. In any case it’s a good value for three games, and it’s downloadable so I didn’t even have to leave my chair.

  • TF2 Griefing. 2008-01-22. I probably shouldn’t be rewarding this kind of annoying pub server behavior, but Team Roomba’s “More Team Fortress 2 Griefing” YouTube video might just be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen, especially at the end with the trivia questions. (Warning: I wouldn’t recommend watching with minors present.)

  • Gears of War Installed. 2008-07-08. I installed Gears of War for the PC this past weekend. I bought it about six months ago… and only now experienced just the right combination of boredom and lack of creativity to turn to a video game.

  • EVE Online Impressions. 2008-10-14. Before I wasted my money on WAR, I toyed with the idea of getting EVE Online instead. The idea of a spaceship-based MMO is fascinating – it harkens back to the golden age of TradeWars on the local dialup BBS – and I’ve wanted to try it out for, well, years. So now that WAR is gone, I went ahead and downloaded the 21-day EVE Online free trial through Steam and played with it over the 3-day weekend.

  • Bioshock. 2008-11-28. I downloaded Bioshock from Steam for a measely $19.95 a while back. If you’re one of the six or seven people who haven’t played it already, it’s a very cool game. Definitely a five… out of five.

  • Grand Theft Auto. 2009-05-03. During most of the huge gap that I didn’t post anything about gaming, I was usually playing Grand Theft Auto 3 and GTA: San Andreas, which I got in a big Steam package for like $29.99. Now I understand why everyone thought those games were so revolutionary and awesome.
