  • 17:06 # I, for one, am fed up with all this cold weather during winter.

Saturday 01/18

  • 23:28 # I can’t even process this WAS win. The last time WAS went to the NFC Championship game, there was no Twitter, no Facebook, barely even an Internet.

Sunday 01/19

  • 17:01 # Ugh remember when a 1 second power flicker didn’t wipe out your television viewing experience for 5 minutes? Now the television is a computer connected to the cable box which is another computer and the tiniest power outage and everything has to reboot and then you’ve missed 5 minutes of the big game at a crucial moment.

Monday 01/20

  • 09:55 # I went looking for a simple way to export a RimWorld game’s history to a text file or something and found that nobody has apparently ever thought to do that. Or else I found that modern Internet search is completely broken and incapable of finding anything. (Well, I’ve known that for years, actually.) Anyway it seems like a really simple task to extract a game log from a save file. I don’t get why nobody’s done it before.

    • 13:56 # Oh.. now I see why nobody’s done it before. The “history” in the save file is truncated so it isn’t the complete history of the colony. Makes it pretty useless.

Saturday 01/25

  • 21:14 # I’m watching a couple of anime classics tonight for the first time, for no discernable reason, because I don’t like anime that much. Ghost in the Shell and Princess Mononoke. I started with Ghost in the Shell 2.0 on Prime, then I switched to the original on Pluto TV about halfway through. Both were in English, and the dubbing was pretty awful. Princess Mononoke is on Max and I’m going to watch the Japanese version.

    • 09:11 # Princess Mononoke was like the Lord of the Rings of anime. Super creative and fantastically epic but I kept feeling like there was a lot of context I was missing. The rules of the worldbuilding were not very obvious. Also it wasn’t at all clear why Princess Mononoke was the title character. Anyway, glad I watched it.

Sunday 01/26

  • 14:38 # NFC Championship coming up… fully expecting the wheels to come off the WAS cinderella season, because after 30 years of a team being so bad they make you not even want to watch football, what else am I supposed to think.

    • 15:03 # The National Anthem… or… the time when we listen to see if the singer is actually singing live or using auto tune or something weird like that. Sounded live and unprocessed to me. Side note: Why did we pick a national anthem that’s so dern hard to sing? Feels like those things should be easy for non- singers to sing and not have a crazy big range of notes that challenge even trained singers.

    • 15:04 # WAS receives the first possession. Here we go.

    • 15:05 # Hrm sack on the first play. Auspicious start. I think one of their best offensive lineman is out this week.

    • 15:10 # Easy fourth down conversion. Man. Going for it on fourth down every time you’re across midfield definitely wasn’t a thing the last time I watched football regularly.

    • 15:12 # Second fourth down conversion. This is why they call them the Cardiac Commanders.

    • 15:14 # Daniels looks a little off on his throws so far. Another auspicious sign. As a longtime WAS fan, I assume this means an impending team implosion any second.

    • 15:15 # Field goal. WAS 3-0 after the first possession. Now we get to see if they have a prayer of stopping the monster PHI running game.

    • 15:20 # Uh oh. The answer is no. Definitely no. Barkley running TD on the first play. PHI 7-3. I have a baaaaad feeling about the rest of this game heh.

    • 15:27 # Ugh WAS fumble, PHI recovers. Here we go with the implosion. And we’re not even out of the 1st quarter yet. The inevitable WAS implosion. Well it was a nice season while it lasted I guess.

    • 15:42 # PHI 14-3 after the first quarter. WAS driving after an amazing fake punt.

    • 16:04 # PHI 14-12 after a failed WAS 2-pt conversion. I’m still going to assume WAS is imploding and will lose this game even though they’ve only made one big mistake so far and otherwise have looked pretty good. I’m a bit baffled that PHI isn’t just handing the ball to Barkley on every down. But hey, I don’t mind.

    • 16:09 # That “tush push” wasn’t a thing the last time I watched football regularly either. Looks lame. Not a very fan-friendly kind of play.

    • 16:26 # Oof another WAS fumble right before the half.

    • 16:44 # PHI 27-15 at the half. WAS isn’t out of it yet but those two turnovers are killing them.

    • 17:41 # PHI 34-23 after the third quarter. PHI just recovered a third fumble in WAS territory. This game’s basically over barring a miracle. PHI offense way too good for WAS to make these mistakes.

    • 18:02 # Okay I give up. It’s over. WAS basically gave away the game with those 3 turnovers. That’s the team I’ve come to expect for the last 30 years. :) Time to start prepping for the AFC Championship game, in which I have no particular feelings about who wins.
