Dispatches from @ultrviolet@gts.endgameviable.com:

Minor spoilers for Baldur’s Gate 3, maybe, kind of.

08:07 # Baldur’s Gate 3. This morning I’m reflecting on how thoroughly annoyed I am that the Scroll of True Resurrection that I got from “In Case of Death” seemed to have disappeared from my party inventory when I went looking for it last night. I was going to use it to resurrect [redacted] who got murdered by [redacted] in camp one night, because Withers can’t. Also I keep seeing random new things in my inventory and I don’t know how they got there. More and more bugs stacked on top of bugs in this game. Every day, more bugs discovered. Now the all time classic RPG bug of disappearing items from the inventory. But holy wow it’s a fun game. It creates such fun stories of adventure. #baldursgate3

19:24 # Baldur’s Gate 3. Tonight, the first order of business is to find out if the party can walk out of the Goblin Camp or if they’ll have to fight their way out. #baldursgate3

19:39 # I just read about the snafu with Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix #4 having to be redeployed, and newer save files not working for a time. Luckily I missed all that. (I hope, I haven’t launched the get yet tonight.) It makes me wonder how many decades it will take before game developers figure out how to make backwards and forwards compatible save files once and for all, because this “can’t load the save file” thing happens a lot. Configuration and serialization is hard, but it really seems like a solvable problem. I remember having to make user preference save files that were backwards and forwards compatible way back in the early 90s. I guess most working developers these days are relatively new at the job, and it takes time to develop the experience of continuous planning for when everything inevitably goes wrong. #baldursgate3 #development

21:01 # The thing where when you send an item to your camp chest it disappears forever is a pretty cool game feature. Don’t understand why more games don’t do that. The eternal struggle of the game developer versus the overly complicated inventory management system continues. Still somewhat baffled why every Baldur’s Gate 3 headline isn’t ranting about how many bugs are in this game. They’ve worked some kind of PR magic with this one. Perhaps a deal with the devil, you might say, hyuk hyuk. I guess you get a pass if it’s a genuinely fun game buried under all the bugs. :) #baldursgate3

21:09 # Baldur’s Gate 3. However I’m happy to report that I finally found my missing True Resurrection scroll. It was on a different character. Unfortunately I still wasn’t able to resurrect (redacted) so they’re gone from my game forever I guess. Would have been a really interesting story twist if I’d been able to bring them back. Oh well. #baldursgate3
