Karl Rove Resigned

186 words.

I took a couple days off from work so I missed Karl Rove’s resignation. (He’s one of the reasons why I think presidents are mainly just figureheads.) It’s hard to get really excited about his resignation because even a casual examination of the political landscape at any level shows that there is an army of Karl Rove disciples from both parties waiting and hoping to replace him.

On a more philosophical note, it occurs to me that the rise of the Karl Roves of the world might be one more reason why Mass Media has destroyed the world. (That is one of my pet theories.) Before mass media, a person with political ambitions didn’t really need to be telegenic or even photogenic. Now, a person must be “electable” in order to get into power, most of which involves looking good and sounding good. So now, in the age of Mass Media, a person with political ambitions who doesn’t happen to be good-looking must form a symbiotic relationship with an electable candidate in order to get into power. So you end up with people like Karl Rove.
