Meanwhile, Back In The 12th

202 words.

Back here in the relatively uninteresting 12th Senate District, the Republican primary is all about taxes and spending. Stosch claims he’s an “effective cost-cutter”, while Blackburn claims Stosch is telling “one old fairy tale after another.” I have not done any fact-checking on either claim, because frankly I find the subject of taxes and spending incredibly dull.

The issues that I personally find noteworthy in the Stosch/Blackburn primary are:

  • It seems rather unlikely that there will be anybody else (ie. Democrats or Independents) to vote for come November, so June 12 will probably be the only opportunity to affect 12th District representation in the Virginia General Assembly.
  • Stosch was part of the legislative body that enthusiastically brought a marriage amendment to Virginia.
  • Stosch paid some $119k from his campaign coffers to his own CPA firm. Granted, that probably doesn’t mean anything, but it sure sounds fishy.
  • Blackburn’s advertising so far is entirely negative.
  • Blackburn is a newbie.

Beyond those things and the brouhaha over taxes, I don’t see much of anything that separates the two.
