The Next Move In The Iranian Chess Match

210 words.

Let’s check in with Iran to see how the diplomacy to stop the next World War is going. Previously, the UN offered a package of incentives to Iran for them to stop enriching uranium, with the unprecedented support of Russia and China. I don’t remember ever hearing what the incentives actually were, but presumably it was good stuff. Iran responded by saying they would respond formally today, August 22. In the meantime, Iran has continued to state that they will never give up their right to enrich uranium, prompting a new industry of wildly popular Iranian bumper stickers that read, “you can take my enriched uranium when you pry it from my underground, bomb-proof bunkers.”

We’re still waiting to hear Iran’s formal response, but industry experts project it will be something along the lines of “neener neener, you stupid, gullible infidels,” at which time we’ll see if the UN has the nerve to start imposing — and enforcing — sanctions. Based on past performance of the UN, and their currently underwhelming display of force in southern Lebanon, my cynical guess would be: Not bloody likely. Oh, and by the way, yesterday Iran threw out UN inspectors trying to make sure they weren’t making weapons in their power plants — again.
