Israel On The March

275 words.

Guess what? Israel is invading Lebanon. Well, kind of. They’re invading the Hezbollah-controlled southern portion of Lebanon, which one could argue is not really a part of Lebanon. (It’s certainly not under the control of Lebanese government, seeing as how Lebanon has been telling Hezbollah to pleeeeease disarm for like five years.)

While I’m not thrilled about the escalating violence in the Middle East, it’s hard to be sad about the prospect of knocking Hezbollah down to size. That’s something I’m willing to pay a few extra dollars at the gas pump for. Hezbollah is an Iranian-backed cancer that should be excised. The only sad part is that a bunch of innocent people are going to die during the operation. Unfortunately that’s how the world works right now. Hopefully it’ll be better ten or twelve generations from now.

In reading up on Middle Eastern affairs, I found out that this isn’t the first time Israel has sent troops into southern Lebanon. Israel had occupied the territory for many years, but they pulled out in 2000. Hezbollah promptly moved in and took over the vacated area, naturally claiming credit for driving the Zionists out. (In truth, Israel left because of UN Security Council resolutions.) Those peace-loving Islamists of Hezbollah are now repaying Israel’s PR gift by kidnapping two IDF soldiers and firing missiles indiscriminately into Israeli cities. Nice.

On a more humorous note: Over the weekend, I saw on some newscast or another that Lebanese leaders were pleading with the international community for help in getting rid of Hezbollah. What exactly do they think Israel is doing? Lebanon should be sending thank-you gift baskets to Israel.
