256. Do cats or dogs make better pets? Why?
In the dream I saw a dog and a cat lounging on a porch. I asked them, “Do cats or dogs make better pets?”
The dog said, “Cats jump out of dark shadows and scare me. I don’t like them.”
The cat said, “Dogs are fun toys for me to play with.”
“Which is best?”
The dog said, “I comfort you in sorrow and help you see the joy in everyday life, but I cannot survive by myself.”
The cat said, “I entertain you with my antics and keep you from sleeping late, and in return I expect to be well paid in food.”
“Cat, you’re making a strong case for the dog.”
The cat scoffed. “Dogs are stressful to keep as pets. You never really know if a dog is happy, do you? Every day, there is a constant nagging worry in the back of your mind that you are not doing enough to nourish the life of that animal that depends on you so completely. Wouldn’t the dog be better off with someone else? Wouldn’t the dog thrive more if you took them to an animal shelter where someone else could adopt them to give them the happier life they deserve?”
The dog looked alarmed. “But I like it here with you. You’re my best friend.”
