AI Is A Synthesizer

I just heard an analogy that’s so good I had to write an individual post highlighting it.
Using AI in content creation today is culturally perceived the same way that using a synthesizer in music was in the 70s, and, if I might editorialize a bit, the ultimate outcome will probably be the same.
That is all.
Although I suppose this won’t have the eye-opening impact on a reader I might hope unless they’re basically a Boomer. Ah well.
No synthesizers were used in the recording of this blog post.

I refer you to my post of 16 April 2016, entitled “Don’t Ask Me What’s Real. I’ll Only Tell You “Everything”, an observational piece on AI in music, in which I wrote “I’m old enough to remember when album sleeves sometimes bore the passive-aggressive rubric “No Synthesizers”. The line between authenticity and artificiality is constantly being re-drawn.”
I mention it not to blow my own trumpet so much as to point out that this seems like a pretty obvious parallel to me, worthy of a throwaway remark, not a whole thesis.
UltrViolet 2025-11-20T15:09:46Z I didn’t mention it in the post but I was mainly trying to educate younger folks trying to push back the AI avalanche, or possibly older folks afraid of AI… the point I was trying to make (which seems obvious to me) is that the current AI gold rush/controversy is eventually going to settle into AI being commonplace and accepted in everyday life and no big deal.
