Syrian Rebels: Know Anyone With Guns?

276 words.

On the CBS News podcast that I listened to this morning, a reporter was interviewing some Syrian rebels which the U.S. is supposedly supporting. These good guy rebels (as opposed to the bad guy rebels which we don’t support) were complaining that the U.S. hasn’t sent any weapons or ammunition, and that they didn’t have enough to do any fighting.

First of all, don’t they know there’s an ammunition shortage in this country? Gun owners buy up all the ammunition after a Democrat wins an election. And the DHS is trying to keep us from arming ourselves. Between all that, we don’t have any ammo to spare.

Kidding aside, why on earth would someone start a rebellion against a military dictatorship without stocking up on arms first? And then why would they persist in that rebellion without any weapons? I mean, when you run out of ammunition in a battle, that’s a pretty good time to give up, right?

Granted, if a Syrian rebel surrenders they probably aren’t going to live very long, so they probably have good reason to keep fighting. Still, it’s hard to have a lot of sympathy for a bunch of people who apparently started a rebellion with zero forethought. I guess it was just “cool” for the kids to start a rebellion during the Arab Spring. “Hey what do you want to do tonight?” “Let’s throw rocks at our government leaders and set fire to their offices!” “Yeah, cool! Everyone’s doing it! I saw it on Twitter!” “Wait, they’re shooting at us and all our friends are dying.” “Um, how do we keep them from killing us? Know anyone with guns?”
