It’s A Libertarian Paradise

Wow, so no last-second midnight deal after all. As I sit here in a federal building, federal workers are making plans to leave. Contrary to news reports that the world ended at midnight, government workers did at least have to come in to work this morning, so they could get the news, do some kind of “transition,” then go back home. And a few people will remain, so the building will (unfortunately for me) not actually close.

I’m not sure what the hold-up is now. News reports this morning are focused on those silly “what happens in a government shutdown” stories. C-SPAN says:

The House voted early Tuesday morning to send the bill to a conference committee and selected conferees from the Republican party with additional conferees to be assigned by the minority leader. http://www.c-span.org/Events/Government-Shut-Down-Begins-Senate-to-Debate-House-Request-for-Conference-Committee/10737441638/

I still have to believe the House won’t let this go on for very long. If you can’t tell, I am of the opinion that this is purely the fault of the House’s butt-headedness. In most cases, everyone in the House is certifiably insane, but in this case, it is the House Republicans who keep sending amendments that won’t pass.
