Two Hands
289 words.
This is a comparison of the personal convictions of two people. On the one hand, we have Dr. George Tiller. He was a doctor who worked for what he believed was the good of his patients in a quiet and unassuming way.
According to this article in the Guardian, in 1986, Dr. Tiller’s clinic was bombed. An ordinary person might have been deterred into a career change, but he kept working. In 1993, he was shot in both arms, but he was back the next day and kept working. In 1998, he was told that he was the #1 target of domestic terrorists, but it didn’t stop him – he just wore a flak jacket to work. He was constantly harassed, physically and legally, but stuck to his work and his beliefs.
For these steadfast convictions, he was shot in the head while attending church this past weekend. In America – the land of the free and the home of the brave.
On the other hand, we have the antagonistic Virginia conservative zealot “John Doe” of Smash Mouth Politics, having great fun in the kiddie pool of anonymity, posting pictures of dead babies and writing hilarious classifieds for Dr. Tiller’s replacement. In a post of stunning irony, he reprimanded mainstream conservatives for expressing remorse over Dr. Tiller’s murder: “Quit posturing you pussies. Quit assuming the BOHICA position. I could care less what liberals say. They will attack us for any reason, real or imagined. Grow a pair of balls all you conservatives. Fight back.”
To demonstrate his own fierce personal convictions and fighting style, John Doe proceeded to remove the picture of the dead baby from his blog.
Which one would you want on your side in a fight?
