Third Parties For President
210 words.
To do my small part to destroy the thought-stifling two-party political system in America, here is some information about third-party presidential candidates running in 2008. This information was gathered from Wikipedia and various Google searches.
- Chuck Baldwin is running on the Constitution Party ticket.
- Bob Barr is running on the Libertarian Party ticket.
Earl Dodge (no website found) is running on the (Pro-Dodge) Prohibition Party ticket.Gene Amondson (no website found) is running on the (Anti-Dodge) Prohibition Party ticket. (The Prohibition Party is split into two factions, according to Wikipedia.)- Cynthia McKinney is leading the nomination for the Green Party.
- Ralph Nader is running as an Independent.
- There are tons more, including about 50 different varieties of socialist candidates, if you’re interested in that sort of thing.
As far as I can tell, none of these candidates have enough petition signatures to make it onto Virginia ballots yet, so if you are a Virginian who hates the two-party system, you may want to help them out:
- Constitution Party of Virginia
- Green Party of Virginia
- Libertarian Party of Virginia
- Ralph Nader
- (Can’t find any other Virginia third-party web sites.)
And here’s a nifty blog with Third Party news and information: Third Party Watch.
UPDATE: Oops… apparently Earl Dodge died last year.
