Iranian Test Missile

Tom 169 words

I heard about this alarming story in passing on WRVA the other day, so I did a little digging to find out what really happened. As far as I know, this story was wholly ignored by American media in the face of Super Tuesday.

Iran “tested a missile capable of carrying satellites into space,” according to the Jerusalem Post. Allegedly, their goal is to launch a “research satellite” into orbit. It’s hard not to be skeptical about that, and wonder if they might also be testing a long-range delivery system for nuclear weapons.

Surprisingly, Russia “voiced concern about Iran’s launch,” according to another Jerusalem Post story. It’s surprising because Russia is the one selling them the technology to build the rockets!

The other interesting point raised by this person on the radio (Henry Sokolski of the Non-Proliferation Policy Education Center) was this: Apparently we give money to Russia to help them build space technology, and Russia then in turn sells that technology to Iran. What’s wrong with this picture?
