Long-Range Missiles Are So 1986

I’ll admit I don’t know much about North Korea or why it’s part of the “axis of evil.” (Other than the information found in the excellent documentary Team America: World Police.) Maybe I should read up on that. Especially because of recent news that North Korea is getting ready to test a missile that could potentially reach the west coast. Huh? People aren’t supposed to be testing missiles in this post-Cold War era of worldwide harmony! Don’t those people know they should be sponsoring terrorists instead of building missiles? Mrs. Krehbiel even wondered if she should bother finishing her homework for the class she’s taking. (I suggested that impending global thermonuclear warfare wasn’t a good enough reason to skip homework, and she grudgingly went back to work.)
In unrelated news, today the U.S. activated its missile defense system. I didn’t even know we had a missile defense system, so it’s comforting to know it’s there. Testing a missile defense system seems like a fitting response to a missile test. “Sure, you kids test your missile. Meanwhile, we’ll test blowing it right the hell out of the sky before it gets more than fifty feet away from your airspace. Have a nice day!” Of course, it’s still an experimental missile defense system, so we could actually end up blowing ourselves up. Which would definitely be embarrassing. So let’s hope those government defense contractors are up to their usual high standards of excellence on this particular project.
