The Sock Puppets Are Winning

221 words.

Virtucon, apparently the unofficial insult comic blog for the Allen campaign, informed us that Virginians Like Their U.S. Senators — Both of Them. Looks pretty grim. For some bizarre reason, Virginia seems to like having a sock puppet for a Senator. Maybe Virginia is really populated with sock puppets. (Some of the people driving on 95 sure act that way.)

The SurveyUSA poll shows Allen with a 53% approval rating, which is roughly the percentage he got when he was elected in 2000. That ranks him 50th out of the 100 senators. His approval’s gone up and down, but it’s about the same as it was a year ago, which is as far back as the Survey USA data goes. Each demographic category is the same — the percentages go up and down, probably in response to some national news or another, but they end up about the same as they were a year ago. Can’t find any Senate poll data that goes back farther than 2005.

The good news is that the poll sample is only 600 people, and Allen’s 53% approval isn’t as good as the 70% some of the other Senators are getting. The bad news is that probably doesn’t matter much. I guess I shouldn’t get my hopes up too much for non-sock puppet representation in November.
