Virtucon Tries A Red Herring

200 words.

Here’s an example of the seedy underbelly lying beneath George Allen’s “good ol’ boy” exterior — an example of the kind of “common sense leadership” he inspires in his campaign workers: Webb Campaign Steals Marvel Comics “How-To” Art For Flyer. I suppose we’ll be seeing quite a bit more of this kind of rhetoric in the near future.

“Not O’Reilly,” if that is his/her/it’s real name, displays a conveniently-timed lack of knowledge about copyright law by suggesting that hand drawing an image that looks similar to another image is somehow illegal and/or unethical. This is what’s known in propaganda circles as a “Red Herring” — taking an issue that is not relevant and assigning some political significance to it. “Not O’Reilly” is suggesting that Webb is not qualified to be a Virginia Senator because one of his staff members drew a cartoon inspired by a comic how-to book.

Yes, I too have a hard time imagining what kind of person might a) make such a claim, and b) believe such a claim. But there it is in black & white for all to see: Allen supporters are treating voters like idiots and trying to divert attention away from the issues.
