Here’s my humorous Virginia politics observation for the day.
Apparently the DSCC has endorsed Jim Webb for Senate. I can’t find where I read it, but it’s out there somewhere. The DSCC is the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which is an organization of the Democratic Party which helps Democratic candidates for Senate. It would seem that the overlords of the Democratic Party really want Jim Webb to run against George Allen, instead of Harris Miller. (This is also affirmed by the number of national Democrats endorsing Webb over Miller.)
Jim Webb enjoys huge support from the Virginia blogosphere, most of whom would probably consider themselves part of the “netroots.” Netroots people tend to be anti-establishment populists — people who feel that the power elite oppresses the will of the common folk. (This is affirmed by Daily Kos and the whole “Crashing the Gate” meme.)
So it seems tremendously ironic to me that the netroots people are gung-ho for the candidate endorsed by the power elite. Maybe I’m the only one that finds that funny. Somebody’s being suckered here; I’m just not quite sure who.
