Zarqawi Mania
238 words.
As I begin typing this, it’s only 8:06 AM in Virginia. Since I’m sure that Zarqawi will still be leading the news at 8:06 PM and beyond, let me be among the first to say… omg I am sick of hearing about Zarqawi already! Can’t we leave the job of making him a martyr to the jihadists?? It has virtually no impact on the situation in Iraq anyway.
So I heard the big news on the radio driving to work, and one of my first thoughts was, “I wonder how long it will be before Bush opponents (aka. progressives) try to spin this into a negative?” Turns out, not very long — about an hour after the news broke, in the case of that post. With kos out partying at Yearly Kos, georgia10 is left to give us the news on the dKos front page: Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is Dead. “Finally,” she says grudgingly, and that’s all. Her lack of verbiage speaks volumes. (Part of me thinks that Zarqawi’s death was worth the effort just to reduce her to a 1-word blog entry.)
Did anyone else think Bush’s little Rose Garden announcement this morning spent an inordinate amount of time listing Zarqawi’s “accomplishments?” It sounded like a jihadist resume.
(Yes, I know it took me over 2 hours from the time I started typing to the time I posted this. What can I say? I’m a busy guy.)
