Haditha Thoughts

So Michelle Malkin and her subsidiary Hot Air are still out in front on defending the marines of Haditha. Their “citizen journalism” machine is really working overtime. Oddly enough, though Malkin et al frequently cite moonbats slavering over the incident, I haven’t seen much of it myself. (Except “WW’s” comments… see below.)
I know I said earlier that “they’re totally guilty” but I was being a little facetious. I do think there’s something hinky about this case, though, because it’s getting so much more attention than any other case of deliberate Iraqi civilian killings, which I read somewhere were numerous. Now that I think about it, that’s a lousy reason to think there’s something hinky going on, but there it is. Anyway, just to be clear, I really hope the allegations against the marines are false, but I have a “bad feeling” about this one.
In their defense, though, the first question that comes to my mind is: How do we know the video of the aftermath taken by that Iraqi student is authentic? I mean, unless it’s independently verified, it could be video from anywhere. Considering it’s frequently cited as evidence against the marines, that seems like an important question to answer.
Here’s a good post on the subject: What makes a shooting a massacre? The author tries to distinguish between situations where civilians are killed accidentally (regrettable, but not illegal) and situations where civilians are killed deliberately (regrettable and illegal).
P.S. Is commenter “WW” on that blog the biggest ass on the planet or what? I mean wow. It’s such an unrelenting example of lunacy that it has to be a joke.
