Kneejerking Back At Kos

276 words.

Grrr. This makes me sound like a wingnut again, but this Daily Kos post pisses me off: U.S. To Close Abu Ghraib. “Georgia10” tells us that the U.S. is turning Abu Ghraib back over to the Iraqis, and then commences preaching about the “culture of abuse and maltreatment” in other U.S. prisons.

Instead of disciplining the soldiers who committed atrocities in that war, the military sent them to Iraq.

“Atrocities.” Truly amazing. The same word frequently used to describe Hitler’s conduct during the Holocaust… you know, mass executions, gas chambers, genocide, medical experiments… on civilians… women… children… has now been nerfed down to include photographing enemy prisoners of war in slightly embarrassing poses. What’s next? The “atrocity” of only providing non-digital cable television?

And the sad reality is that shutting down Abu Ghraib does not wash the blood off our hands, nor does it wipe the shame off our souls.

Your soul may feel shameful (as indeed it should), but mine doesn’t. I refuse, utterly and unequivocally, to feel sorry for the comparatively mild treatment of persons who would happily participate in, videotape, support, or otherwise condone cutting journalists’s heads off. Wait, suddenly that doesn’t sound like such a bad idea. Let’s hope they start kidnapping bloggers, too.

I wonder, in today’s progressive social climate, what exactly would be considered “treason” anymore. Certainly not blatant anti-American propaganda, it would seem. Perhaps just to be safe I should report Georgia10 to the authorities so I don’t inadvertently commit Misprision of treason.

P.S. I tried to post this as a comment on Daily Kos but they have a stupid 24-hour waiting period before you can do so. Grrr.
