Friday Bits

Dispatches from @ultrviolet@gts.endgameviable.com:

09:03 # Finding a public web site where I can just plug in an Internet URL and have the page be read out loud in a natural AI voice is harder than I would have expected in August of 2023. There’s a few where you can have a web page read in a robotic unnatural voice, but the good stuff still seems to be jealously guarded and paywalled. #development

09:09 # Baldur’s Gate 3. Only played one session of Baldur’s Gate 3 last night and no fighting occurred, but I found an Underdark. Didn’t go into it more than a few steps, though. The one minotaur I saw was only level 4, but the petrified drow statues gave me pause. Plus, I still have tons of loose ends to deal with up on the surface: Gnolls, Paladins of Tyr, a Creche, a Spider Matriarch and a cursed book. #baldursgate3

09:29 # Tweetdeck just turned into the new paywalled unconfigurable X abomination for me, so there’s no reason for me to keep it as a pinned tab in my browser and there’s little compelling reason for me to read anything on Twitter ever again, so I’ll have to seek carefully-cultivated news and current events information elsewhere (like there even is anywhere else). #newsconsumer

14:22 # Ugh developed a massive headache today and it’s just not going away. I’ve always wondered if these are migraine headaches. I don’t fully understand the scientific or medical distinction between a “migraine” and a “headache.” I always thought there was a physiological distinction between the two, but I have no idea how I’m supposed to know whether I’m experiencing one or the other, and Wikipedia articles aren’t exactly helpful in this regard (e.g. “one symptom of a migraine is a headache”). Makes it sound like if you want to call it a migraine, it’s a migraine. Otherwise, it’s a headache. #health

15:39 # I’m getting notification emails from Google about them deleting unused accounts by the end of the year and the idea of trying to find and log into every random Google throwaway email account I’ve made over the years to prevent it from being deleted is rather daunting. I guess that’s the point. #development
