Week End – WoW 8.0

Weekly news and observations.

In The News

The biggest news this week is the World of Warcraft 8.0 pre-expansion patch dropping Tuesday. I don’t have a WoW subscription and have no plans to play this expansion (which doesn’t actually begin until next month), at least not right away. It’s tempting to jump in with all the excitement at launch time, but I haven’t played WoW since about two weeks after the last expansion, and I know I’ll only play this expansion for about two weeks before running into the “I’ve done all of this before” wall, so I’ll just save myself the $65 this time around. Not to mention I can’t play games right now anyway, see below.

I don’t remember if I ever mentioned Fractured’s Kickstarter. It’s almost over, and still a bit short. I’m not backing it because a) I never back Kickstarter games and b) the amount they’re asking for clearly isn’t enough to develop a game.

My Week

This week the saga of me whining because my hands still haven’t recovered continues. I’m now wondering if some portion of my left hand, around the thumb area, is actually broken. I keep thinking it’s better, then I try to use it, then I make it worse. I haven’t been able to bend my left thumb at all this week. I can work a mouse with my right hand but that’s about it. I have to type with my right hand only. It’s annoying, to say the least. Not even mentioning how much it affects my life outside of computers. Try opening a jar with one hand sometime.

At the current rate of healing I seriously doubt I’ll be able to use a controller effectively again before September, if ever again, and all those games I wanted to play are on hold indefinitely. WASD games are also completely off the table indefinitely (my hands felt better last weekend so I played about an hour-and-a-half total of a WASD game, about 20 minutes at a time, with breaks between, with an Apple wireless keyboard and those super light, easy chicklet keys, and it was a huge mistake, and see above where I can’t bend my thumb or type now).

Neverwinter Nights 2

Have only managed to play a couple hours of Neverwinter Nights 2, one of the very few RPGs I can find in the universe that is sort-of playable with just a mouse. I’ve owned it on Steam forever but not played more than a few hours before. It’s not very fun, to be honest.

Most of my free time has actually been spent in front of a television watching mostly UK police procedurals on Netflix. Comprehensive reviews: Marcella-meh, Mindhunter-good, The Fall-good, Shetland-okay.
